My Thoughts In a working agreement with over 75 Cuban artists, I, John Casuccio, agree to support, promote and represent their work. In almost 5 years and 28 expeditions scouring Cuba for the best artists I could find, I bring you an explosive expansive collection embodying the heart and soul of Cuba. In my life, I have done a cross section of things, always remaining closely connected to all forms of art. For passion, driven by desire and the willingness to stay vulnerable, maintains an openness that allows the light to shine in, creating a greater perspective to look out from, so we don’t miss the big picture. It’s been a wild and rugged ride acquiring Cuban art. Anyone who has done business in a third world country can attest to this. Nothing works, everything takes three times as long to do, and nothing is as it appears. The flip side to this: the Cuban people are wonderful and extremely talented. They have an indelible spirit that’s always shining, even in the face of adversity. I first set out to learn Spanish and more about their culture, but was overcome by the passion in their art. The people are poor and live under an oppressive regime where there is no vote, no freedom of movement, and no freedom of speech. So what better way to expose their sentiments to the outside world, and in doing so, champion their cause? Every country leaves in its wake a legacy and a history through its artists’ work. Before language, we had art: the unspoken word, the silent scream, the soul of reason. From this insular island springs a very unique culture. My objective is to support Cuba’s people, its culture and its passion. I hope you enjoy some of Cuba’s hidden treasures like I have. Sincerely, John Casuccio
